Description
The Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library will be holding its 2nd Annual Adult Spelling Bee on Thursday, October 19, and teams are lining up to battle one another for the title of Champion Spellers of the County! Three-person teams from the Centreville Town Council, library staff, county schools, civic organizations, neighborhood associations, and local businesses are all busy studying, preparing for the Spelling Bee, which will feature teams going head-to-head-to-head in an effort to remember when is it that “e” actually comes before “i”. Each is hoping to dethrone the defending champion team, comprised of members of the Library Board of Trustees. Teams will face a tough panel of judges this year: County Commissioner Jack Wilson. County Sheriff Gary Hoffman, and Gigi Windley, executive director of the Kent Narrows Development Corporation, will assess the accuracy of each team’s efforts as they proceed through a round-robin competition towards a dramatic finale. The public is encouraged to attend this entertaining (and free) event as Bee watchers, to cheer on your favorite team and to see how you match up against the spellers. The Spelling Bee will take place at Wye River Upper School in Centreville MD starting at 7pm on October 19 (preceded by a social time at 6:30pm). Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the evening, and attendees will have the chance to buy raffle tickets to win gift cards from more than 25 local restaurants that have made donations for this event. The Friends of the Library are appreciative of our sponsors for this event, including Queenstown Bank and Mary Ciesieski with Long & Foster Realty. Additional sponsors are always welcomed: Interested businesses should contact Friends of the Library board member Beth Maier at (781) 248-1619. All proceeds from this event support the efforts of the Friends of the Library to help Queen Anne’s County Library expand programming and update equipment and materials for use by all county residents.
